Before starting the exercise first let's discuss some basic things -

In narration change, a direct speech is given which you have to transform into an indirect speech.

If a speech of a speaker is said by another person it is called Narration. It is also called speech. There are two kinds of narration. -

1) Direct Narration (direct speech) and
2) Indirect Narration (indirect speech).

1. Direct Narration is said by the speaker himself. It is also called quotation.
2. and the Indirect narration is said by someone else.

A direct speech looks like this:

Robert said, "I want to drink water."

In this speech, the speaker (Robert) has directly said what he wants to do.
But if we say,

Robert said that he wanted to drink water.

In the above sentence someone is saying Robert's speech but indirectly.

The meaning of the two sentences are totally same but the first one is said by the speaker (Robert) himself and the second one is said by someone else.
So the first one is called direct speech and the second one is called indirect speech. There are many rules of changing direct speech into an indirect one and also for vice-versa. I wish that you have learnt some of them. So let's test that -

Transform the following direct speech into indirect speech :

1. He said, "I am playing."
2. I said, "I am doing my homework."
3. You said, "I am happy."

7. Father said, "I am going for a tour tomorrow."
